Your organization field and mission

The “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism is Romania’s leading institution dedicated to architecture, urban planning, interior architecture, and heritage conservation. Alongside education, the university develops research supporting resilient cities, cultural heritage, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Please tell us briefly about your role in the company / at your organization

I conduct interdisciplinary research on disaster resilience, cultural heritage, digital documentation, urban sustainability, and the New European Bauhaus. I also contribute to European research networks, support project development, mentor young researchers, and have participated in international collaborations through COST Actions, Marie Curie Alumni Association, and other European initiatives.

Your interest in STEM

My interest developed gradually through architecture. I discovered that architecture combines creativity with mathematics, engineering, environmental science, computing, and humanities/social sciences. During my studies and later international study and research experience, I became increasingly interested in how digital technologies can help preserve heritage and improve the resilience of cities against natural hazards.

A while ago it was Alexander von Humboldt and still is. I like his mode of thinking with associative connections.

Your studies

My strengths were curiosity, persistence, and an interdisciplinary mindset. My greatest challenge was navigating different academic systems while studying and conducting research internationally. These experiences taught me flexibility, independence, and lifelong learning. International mobility also opened many opportunities to collaborate with researchers across Europe.

Do not be discouraged if your career path is not linear. STEM needs different perspectives, creativity, and perseverance. Seek mentors, build international networks, remain curious, and remember that collaboration is often more important than competition.

New European Bauhaus values

I am most proud of building bridges between architecture, engineering, digital technologies, and cultural heritage. I value international collaborations that have connected researchers from different countries and disciplines, and I am especially proud when my work contributes to more resilient communities and better protection of cultural heritage.

Your point of view

Technology provides access to education, international (research) collaboration, flexible working opportunities, and visibility. Digital platforms also allow women to participate in global scientific communities regardless of geographical location.

Believe in your competence even when others underestimate you. Build your own expertise, stay curious, and do not hesitate to participate in international projects and networks. Every collaboration expands both your knowledge and your confidence.

I hope STEM becomes more inclusive, interdisciplinary, and internationally connected. I would like to see greater participation of women in leadership positions, stronger mentoring cultures, and wider use of digital technologies to make research and education accessible to everyone.

To finish with

Curiosity, resilience, collaboration, lifelong learning, and respect for cultural diversity.

Continuing to integrate digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and cultural heritage research while mentoring younger researchers and contributing to more sustainable and resilient built environments.

By 2030 I hope to lead larger interdisciplinary European research initiatives that combine architecture, digital heritage, artificial intelligence, resilience, and education. I also hope to continue mentoring early-career researchers and contributing to international cooperation that makes STEM more inclusive and socially relevant.
